Ann counts the successful planning and execution of our Diverse Supplier Summit among her recent DE&amp;I achievements. The event brought a wide range of diverse customers, suppliers and community partners together. It also featured a keynote speaker from a local historically Black college who talked about the talent landscape and the importance of building a pipeline of diverse talent. &ldquo;The event really focused on bringing diverse suppliers into the conversation but also [on] the diversity of talent communities,&rdquo; Bookout says. &ldquo;It led to really great cross-collaboration with our customers.&rdquo; &nbsp;

To celebrate this year&rsquo;s International Women&rsquo;s Day, we held events in the UK and North America, where Impellam colleagues shared their experiences of the barriers women and others can face at work, and how Impellam can help drive more equitable workplaces and opportunities for all.
In our London event organised by Impellam&rsquo;s IM Womxn Business Resource Group, guest speaker Lauren Neal, best-selling author of &lsquo;Valued at Work&rsquo; was joined by Hoa Ngo, Managing Director, Comensura; Hayley Klaff, Director of Projects &ndash; STEM, Lorien; and Laura Browne, Client Services Manager, Guidant Global.
They discussed the question, &lsquo;why do we need to inspire inclusion?&rsquo;
Sharing examples of bias and sexism she&rsquo;s encountered working on engineering projects, Lauren said inclusion is about making sure that everyone feels valued by being heard and recognised for their input in the workplace: &ldquo;If we don&rsquo;t have an ability to have everybody take part and be valued for taking part, we&rsquo;re going to miss everything.&rdquo;
For Hoa, inspiring inclusion &lsquo;is an everyday thing&rsquo; we can each demonstrate in how we interact with our peers and show respect for others.
This backed up by Hayley Klaff: &ldquo;Everyone has a part to play in this. It&rsquo;s important people feel they&rsquo;ve got an opportunity to contribute and their voices will be heard &ndash; this is why we ensure that we&rsquo;ve got an inclusive environment [at Impellam].&rdquo;
Hoa said there have been men who have been supportive and encouraging to her in her career, and urged more men to &lsquo;open the door&rsquo; and support female colleagues.
The panel went on to discuss issues such as why companies box-tick to meet Equality, Diversity &amp; Inclusion recruitment targets when they should instead focus on why they&rsquo;re recruiting women and from other under-recognised groups. Hayley said recruiting: &ldquo;&hellip;shouldn&rsquo;t feel like box-ticking, it should feel authentic and ask, &lsquo;what matters to us and what matters to the people who work for us?&rsquo;&rdquo; And then putting time and effort into providing those things.
The panel also discussed how allyship could be increased by walking in others&rsquo; shoes and asking, to better understand the challenges they experience; and why mentoring and sponsorship is so important in supporting each other to rise. &ldquo;We all meet &lsquo;Queen Bees&rsquo; in our careers, but we&rsquo;re lucky at Impellam - we have women in leadership who are really supportive,&rdquo; said Laura Browne.
In North America, Claire Marsh, CEO North America, hosted a panel event with Jillian Montgomery, HR Business Partner; Danielle Keane, Senior Director - VMS Implementations, Impellam; Lizzie Verbeek, P&amp;D Business Partner, Impellam; Briana Moglia Boyajian, Principle Mobile Recruiter, Lorien; Jillian Montgomery, HR Business Partner, Impellam; and guest Kahlila Alexander, Associate Director and Diversity Advocate - Kimberly Clark.
The panel shared insights on how everyone can work together as coaches, mentors, allies and sponsors to create more equitable workplaces and provide equality in opportunities for all. They also discussed making sure others &lsquo;know what you know&rsquo; by sharing your story with others to &lsquo;put yourself out there&rsquo;.
Once concept that struct a chord was &lsquo;The Platinum Rule&rsquo;. This is treating others the way they want to be treated, over and above treating others how you&rsquo;d like to be treated (the &lsquo;Golden Rule&rsquo;). As Claire said: &ldquo;[Adopting] this approach allows us to build more effective relationships and recognize the unique strengths that everyone brings to the table.&rdquo;

The UK economy has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons over recent weeks, and unsurprisingly, employer confidence is cooling. Even before this, the number of job vacancies in the UK fell by 3.6% in July to September 2022 &ndash; the third consecutive quarterly fall. But with 1,246,000 vacancies still available, this number was still 450,000 (56.6%) higher than before the pandemic, and nearly 117,000 (10.3%) above the level of a year ago.<a href="file:///C:/Users/laura.eustace/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/P6E0P54U/Article_talent-shortage_181022%20FINAL.docx#_ftn1" name="_ftnref1">[1]</a>
Some sectors are feeling the talent squeeze more than others. According to the BBC, there were more than two million UK job vacancies in tech last year, more than any other labour area. <a href="file:///C:/Users/laura.eustace/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/P6E0P54U/Article_talent-shortage_181022%20FINAL.docx#_ftn2" name="_ftnref2">[2]</a> And a report by Tech Nation, published in June this year, says tech roles now make up 14% of all job opportunities in the UK, up from 11% in 2019.<a href="file:///C:/Users/laura.eustace/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/P6E0P54U/Article_talent-shortage_181022%20FINAL.docx#_ftn3" name="_ftnref3">[3]</a>
As a specialist recruitment and workforce solutions provider, we have first-hand experience of the talent shortages affecting our clients across the UK, and we&rsquo;re working with them to find new ways to plug the skills gap, especially in high-value, vital STEM occupations.
Technology talent shortages 
Lorien, our technology and digital specialist brand, has a large portfolio of clients in financial services &ndash; a sector that has been going through a digital transformation. This transformation accelerated during the pandemic as the workforce became remote, and customers moved to digital and cashless payments and mobile banking.<a href="file:///C:/Users/laura.eustace/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/P6E0P54U/Article_talent-shortage_181022%20FINAL.docx#_ftn4" name="_ftnref4">[4]</a>
Managing Director David Gettins explained that the demand for tech people has increased as everyone from retail to financial services companies look to improve the customer experience. He said: &ldquo;It&rsquo;s no longer just IT companies recruiting tech people: everyone is. And it&rsquo;s not just the big players either; even the smallest organisation is now going digital. Companies need those skills to create new digital products, reduce operating costs and prevent cybercrime.&rdquo;
It&rsquo;s an additional pressure on an already competitive market in which the talent pool is smaller too. With our homegrown workforce lacking the technical skills and experience required, and the UK no longer recruiting talent from APAC and Eastern Europe, the need is being met, at least in part, by workers from India and Pakistan.
Life sciences and engineering 
And it&rsquo;s not just technology experiencing the skills squeeze &ndash; other areas of STEM are finding recruitment and retention of quality talent equally challenging. According to the UK Commission for Employment &amp; Skills, 43% of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) vacancies are hard to fill.<a href="file:///C:/Users/laura.eustace/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/P6E0P54U/Article_talent-shortage_181022%20FINAL.docx#_ftn5" name="_ftnref5">[5]</a> Audrey McCulloch, Operations Director of SRG, our life sciences, engineering and clinical recruitment specialists, explained that Covid had led to an unprecedented demand for biological scientists, and while the testing requirement has receded, vaccine developers are still needed. She said: &ldquo;We&rsquo;re seeing fewer individuals coming from European countries and that&rsquo;s creating a skills shortage.&rdquo;
The root of the skills gap is education. Although there has been an increase in STEM undergraduates over the past few years, only 24% of graduates in STEM subjects are known to be working in a STEM occupation six months later,<a href="file:///C:/Users/laura.eustace/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/P6E0P54U/Article_talent-shortage_181022%20FINAL.docx#_ftn6" name="_ftnref6">[6]</a> and two-fifths of employers cited a shortage of STEM graduates as a key barrier to recruiting appropriate staff.<a href="file:///C:/Users/laura.eustace/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/P6E0P54U/Article_talent-shortage_181022%20FINAL.docx#_ftn7" name="_ftnref7">[7]</a> Audrey also points to a decrease in the number of students doing industry placements as part of their degree, as well as a number choosing to go back into further education.
And it&rsquo;s not just in biological sciences. According to Audrey, the chemicals industry is facing a &lsquo;retirement cliff&rsquo;, and with many due to retire in the next five to 10 years, the candidate pool is being squeezed at both ends.
So, what can we do to reduce the skills gap?
For David, it starts with education. &ldquo;We need to focus on technology,&rdquo; he said, pointing to the technology colleges and universities of China, India and Eastern Europe.
Getting girls on board is crucial too. Lorien has partnered with TechGirls to raise awareness of tech careers among schoolgirls. As part of this partnership, the team spoke to pupils in Manchester and London about the opportunities available at one of our well-known retail clients, from product designers and product owners to UX designers. &ldquo;It opened their minds,&rdquo; said David. Lorien is also using a tool to make sure job adverts and job specifications are gender neutral.
SRG supports client engagement with universities, and it&rsquo;s working with one client to promote its apprenticeships and industry placements to future talent. Another client is investing in employee training to plug the skills gap &ndash; not only helping to tackle the problem but aiding retention too. &ldquo;Individuals who go through on-the-job training tend to be a lot more loyal,&rdquo; explained Audrey.
Retraining employees whose jobs are at risk is another way to meet the skills need &ndash; particularly those jobs at risk from the very digital transformation that is driving the demand for tech talent. For example, companies are moving away from project management to more agile methodology, with smaller teams working across a business to deliver new products more quickly. So, why not reskill and retain the project managers?
As for the current job market, with everyone after the same talent, companies must stand out from the crowd to attract talent. Clients are reviewing their compensation and benefits package, with cost-of-living bonuses and share options among the methods being used to attract and retain staff. Lorien has seen average permanent salaries for technology hires increase by 17% since the pandemic, compared to the first half of 2019.
Employers have to be more flexible too. They must be open to remote working, contract recruitment, and hiring candidates those whose skills and experience might not meet the job specification but who have the capability to grow. David said: &ldquo;We are having to think differently when we&rsquo;re putting teams together. Fortunately, our clients are open to new ways of doing things &ndash; in fact, they were among the early adopters of hybrid working. And as our business covers the whole of the UK, we can give our clients access to talent pools throughout the UK.&rdquo;
Audrey is also seeing flexibility in a sector that has been more rigid in the past. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re talking to clients and asking them to consider, do people have to be on site? Do they have to be based in the country? Some of the big pharmaceutical companies in the UK previously said &lsquo;no&rsquo; to remote working, but now they&rsquo;re realising they don&rsquo;t need to have all staff on site.&rdquo;
Finally, and perhaps most importantly of all, in today&rsquo;s disrupted talent market a brand&rsquo;s value proposition is key to attraction. According to research conducted by Gartner, a strong employee value proposition (EVP) can reduce the compensation premium by 50%, decrease annual employee turnover by just under 70% and increase new hire commitment by nearly 30%.<a href="file:///C:/Users/laura.eustace/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/P6E0P54U/Article_talent-shortage_181022%20FINAL.docx#_ftn8" name="_ftnref8">[8]</a> And with more than a third of employees willing to quit their job if their employer does little or nothing to fight the climate crisis &ndash; rising to over half (53 per cent) of people aged between 18 and 24 years old<a href="file:///C:/Users/laura.eustace/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/P6E0P54U/Article_talent-shortage_181022%20FINAL.docx#_ftn9" name="_ftnref9">[9]</a> &ndash; it&rsquo;s clear that a company&rsquo;s mission, purpose and values are what attracts candidates to employers &ndash; and what keeps them there. David agreed that those clients with an attractive EVP are easier to recruit for &ndash; which is why both SRG and Lorien have been working with clients to understand and promote their value proposition. He added: &ldquo;Money is still a key driver, but purpose is the number one.&rdquo;

We are delighted to&nbsp;announce today the appointment of Danny Cohen as Managing Director, STEM, North America and Tracy Monsour as SVP, Marketing, North America. Cohen and Monsour both report into Claire Marsh, CEO, Impellam, North America.
Cohen has direct oversight and is responsible for driving strategy across the Impellam STEM portfolio, including the Lorien, SRG, and Bartech divisions, working closely with the respective brand presidents.
Monsour leads marketing and communication activities across all Impellam brands in the US and Canada, including Bartech, Corestaff, Lorien, and SRG.

Cohen started his career&nbsp;in&nbsp;recruitment in&nbsp;Europe over&nbsp;20&nbsp;years ago, working via&nbsp;many specialist brands within the&nbsp;SThree&nbsp;Group.&nbsp;He moved to Amsterdam in 2005 eventually leading all STEM contract brands across Benelux and France before relocating to the&nbsp;US where he was promoted to&nbsp;Computer Futures&rsquo;&nbsp;Head of&nbsp;Americas.&nbsp;Away from his day job,&nbsp;Cohen&nbsp;sits on a&nbsp;number of&nbsp;diversity&nbsp;and&nbsp;tech&nbsp;boards; he is the co-founder of&nbsp;Breaking&nbsp;the&nbsp;Glass,&nbsp;a leading&nbsp;professional program for&nbsp;women&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;tech community&nbsp;and their allies;&nbsp;and board member at both 50/50 Women Board and the San Diego Tech Hub,&nbsp;a&nbsp;partnership to help under-served and under-represented communities get jobs in&nbsp;technology.
Tracy Monsour
Monsour has significant executive experience in the field of marketing and communications. She has spent most of her career working in and around the human capital industry and has a passion for developing and mentoring young professionals. She started her career working for Bernard Hodes Group and during that 15+ year tenure, rose to SVP and co-head of national sales; and later held roles in TMP Worldwide (now Radancy) and most recently in Randstad. At Randstad she rose to become the Global Head of Content, Thought Leadership and Enterprise Insights where she headed a team that was responsible for driving share of voice for the company across all relevant media platforms, with a focus on engaging enterprise client companies. Monsour was also instrumental in developing the women&rsquo;s mentorship program for Randstad that fosters and develops early-to-mid career women in achieving professional growth and fulfillment.

Jennifer also recognized the importance of financial literacy and took the time to educate the students on practical aspects of finance, such as managing bills and investing asking questions like, &ldquo;What do you spend your money on?&rdquo; and &ldquo;Do you spend it all at once?&rdquo; Her initiative to equip young students with essential money management skills is important, given many schools in North America do not have the resources to address the topic of financial education.

<h2>So what is the future of ChatGPT Recruitment?</h2>
There&rsquo;s been a lot of noise about ChatGPT since it was made available to the public for free in November 2022. What sets it apart from other AI models &ndash; according to ChatGPT itself &ndash; is its ability to understand context and generate responses that are relevant to the conversation in a human-like way. In other words, it can &lsquo;think.&rsquo; It can create new content and ideas, and even write essays, scripts and poems. In fact, some of the leading names in tech recently penned an open letter calling for a six month pause on AI experiments, stating "Contemporary AI systems are now becoming human-competitive at general tasks."
Not surprisingly, skilled professionals, from content creators to SEO specialists, are feeling vulnerable. And the latest version, GPT-4, which launched in March 2023, looks set to make everyone from web developers to lawyers nervous too. In fact, automation will impact all workers across all sectors, with one in four jobs at risk. Forrester predicts that, by 2030 1.5million jobs will be lost in Australia <a title="test" href="https://www.forrester.com/press-newsroom/forrester-automation-will-cause-australias-job-market-to-shrink-11-by-2030/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Australias job market to shrink by 2030</a>, and by 2040, <a href="https://www.forrester.com/press-newsroom/forresters-future-of-jobs-forecast-12-million-jobs-will-be-lost-to-automation-across-europe-by-2040/">12 million jobs will be lost in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK</a>. <h2>How do I use ChatGPT to work more effectively?&nbsp;</h2>
At Impellam Group, our approach is human first, augmented by technology. It&rsquo;s important to utilize advantageous technology. For example, we&rsquo;ve invested in a digital process automation platform, to take care of our more repetitive tasks so our employees (we call them Virtuosos, because they make the difference) can focus on higher value ones like building relationships with our customers and candidates. In one instance, a Virtuoso was spending 80% of their time answering supplier emails. By automating responses to common queries, we&rsquo;ve reduced this to 90 minutes a week. Pamela Beard, SVP Technology &amp; Project Management, Guidant Global, says: &ldquo;People find no pleasure in a lot of repetitive work. By using the process automation platform, we&rsquo;re making the lives of our fellow team members better and their jobs more interesting.&rdquo;
We&rsquo;re also embracing automation and personalisation so we can provide a more responsive and engaging experience for candidates. Alexa Bradbury, Global Marketing Director, Guidant Global, explains that we use chatbots in high-volume recruitment programmes to bring efficiencies to first-round screening &ndash; for example, by filtering out those without a right to work and self-enabling administrative tasks such as interview scheduling. When it comes to saving time and money, the stats speak for themselves. &nbsp;The latest recruitment technology allows advanced automation and personalisation at scale, resulting in an average of 12% more placements per recruiter, 34% more submissions per head, and 8.5 days less time to fill. More importantly, recruiters are using this time to focus on developing relationships with the most qualified candidates, resulting in 64% higher fill rates&nbsp;and a 21% increase&nbsp;in redeployment.

<h2>How does ChatGPT improve the candidate experience?</h2>
As well as enabling more time to be spent with candidates, AI can also improve the overall candidate experience. Darren Topping, Director of Solutions and Insight for Lorien UK commented, &ldquo;Our research into a positive candidate journey has shown that the right technology will benefit candidates as well as our clients. Things like real-time status updates of application progress, enabling applications to be created quickly and allowing candidates to rate their recruitment experience through various stages of the project can be achieved using AI and provide us with valuable data that will help us measure candidate satisfaction.&rdquo;

<h2>What are the limitations of ChatGPT?</h2>
But AI technology such as ChatGPT has its limitations. Charlotte Horton, Head of Innovation and Insight, Impellam Group, says: &ldquo;We&rsquo;ve not seen a technology that can replace the emotional engagement that our people have with our customers and candidates. We buy services from people we like and people we trust; we can&rsquo;t (and don&rsquo;t want to) replace that.&rdquo;
Ryan McMahon, President, Lorien, agrees. He&rsquo;s been here before. The online job boards were going to be the end of recruiters; except they weren&rsquo;t and we&rsquo;re still here. He says: &ldquo;People want to communicate with people &ndash; especially about a job, something you spend 40 hours a week doing.&rdquo;
Technology is an enabler, but it can&rsquo;t form relationships. It can&rsquo;t listen, or question, or gather insight. It can&rsquo;t engage with customers to understand their problems and come up with a solution that best suits their needs. What AI can do is manage high volumes of work and at pace. It can automate tasks such as building resumes and creating job offers. It can make us more productive in carrying out these tasks, or it can free us up to use our human skills to focus on more rewarding work.
Of course, a number of current jobs in today&rsquo;s market could be described as repetitive &ndash; more than a third of them<a href="https://www.forrester.com/blogs/twenty-five-percent-of-europe-5-jobs-are-at-risk-from-automation-12-million-jobs-will-be-lost-by-2040/"> &lsquo;involve little complex thinking, judgment, or human interaction&rsquo;.</a> &ndash;. According to McKinsey, up to <a href="https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/future-of-work/australias-automation-opportunity-reigniting-productivity-and-inclusive-income-growth">21 million people in Europe and 5 million in Australia.</a>may have to leave <a href="https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/future-of-work/the-future-of-work-in-europe">declining occupations.</a>And in the US, nearly <a href="https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/future-of-work/the-future-of-work-in-america-people-and-places-today-and-tomorrow#section-header-2">40% of jobs are in occupations that could shrink by 2030</a> Even if your job is safe, you can expect your day-to-day activities to change. McKinsey&rsquo;s 2017 analysis of occupations found that, in 60% of jobs, at least <a href="https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/future-of-work/jobs-lost-jobs-gained-what-the-future-of-work-will-mean-for-jobs-skills-and-wages">30% of activities could be automated.</a>
But to suppose that technology is coming for our jobs misses an important point: by 2030, <a href="https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/future-of-work/the-future-of-work-in-europe">Europe will have 20 million fewer people of working age.</a> Not only that, the World Economic Forum predict there will be 150 million new technology jobs created over the next five years, and by 2030<a href="https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2022/10/why-are-young-people-not-preparing-for-the-jobs-of-the-future/"> 77% of roles will require digital skills.</a> Charlotte explains: &ldquo;Ultimately, there aren&rsquo;t enough people in the workforce with the right skills to do the work. The robots aren&rsquo;t replacing humans; they&rsquo;re helping us to work smarter and do more.&rdquo;

The metaverse will allow us to be in two (or more) places at once: to pursue an alternate career in an alternate reality, selling skills augmented by AI. In the metaverse, an avatar can produce and sell content while the real-life person sleeps. If it sounds out of this world, that&rsquo;s because it is, but it has practical applications for business in a world where we&rsquo;re beginning to embrace the global marketplace &ndash; and it could be the solution for remote working.

<h2>&ldquo;Write For Us&rdquo; Technology will accelerate change &ndash; and bring new challenges for people to solve</h2>
AI like ChatGPT needs data centres and data centres need renewable energy &ndash; and they both need people to design, build, manage and maintain them. Ryan expects to see these sectors expand, alongside cyber security, as Lorien, our digital, transformation and technology recruitment brand, staffs the next generation of AI technology. In fact,&nbsp;worldwide employment in<a href="https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2023/01/renewable-energy-transition-green-jobs/"> renewable energy is set to grow by more than 38 million jobs by 2030.</a>
And it&rsquo;s not only <a href="../../../../../../customer-solutions">STEM skills</a> that will be in demand either. Social and emotional skills such as entrepreneurship, initiative taking and leadership, and higher cognitive skills including creativity and critical thinking, will also be sought after.

<h2>What is the potential of ChatGPT Recruitment? Opening up world(s) of talent and breaking down job definitions</h2>
Remote working has already opened up a world of talent, and new digital tools are helping to remove bias from the recruitment process and increase access to opportunity. Add the metaverse to the mix and what do you get? That means 24/7 access to worlds of talent &ndash; a supersized gig economy that augments your core workforce. As organisations automate or outsource more tasks, we&rsquo;ll see less defined job roles and lots of appetite for skills mapping. Talent will flow to work, enabling people to focus on their expertise &ndash; and technology will play a role in helping organisations to understand employees&rsquo; skill sets and behaviours and how to utilise them.

<h2>What limitations does ChatGPT have?</h2>
Technology is only as good as the humans behind it &ndash; not to mention the humans using it too. AI draws its data from content produced by people, which means it&rsquo;s as flawed as those who created it. It might be misinformed, or biased, or both, and it requires human intervention to lead it in the right direction. As a research tool, ChatGPT is helping people to generate content in a more efficient way. Alexa explains: &ldquo;It helps our writers to do their research into the market quickly, but it&rsquo;s definitely not a silver bullet. It&rsquo;s a content aggregator, not original thought: we need to sense check it, make sure it&rsquo;s fit for purpose and put our own stamp on it.&rdquo;

<h2>How do I get the most out of ChatGPT as an employer?</h2>
Digital natives embrace new technologies, and as more of them enter the workforce, they&rsquo;ll bring this acceptance &ndash; and expectation &ndash; with them. Employers competing for talent will need to engage with these people who&rsquo;ve grown up online &ndash; and AI will enable organisations to keep up with demand for content.

Formal policies are in place throughout the Group and they are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect changes in legislation and best practice. The Group requires all colleagues to comply with these.</details><details class="mce-accordion"><summary>Anti-bribery</summary>We have a commitment to carrying out business fairly, honestly and openly. We also have zero tolerance towards bribery. Our Bribery Policy is in place to provide relevant guidance and information to all our people in compliance with the law relating to bribery and corruption, in particular the Bribery Act 2010 (&lsquo;the Act&rsquo;). We are determined to maintain our reputation as a business that will not tolerate fraudulent or corrupt dealings &ndash; whether they are attempted against us from outside, from within our own workforce, or towards our clients or suppliers.</details><details class="mce-accordion"><summary>Community</summary>Impellam brands individually work with charities that support local communities and come together as a group when a big impact is needed.Following the invasion of Ukraine, Impellam people quickly mobilised a cross-brand taskforce to help displaced Ukrainian people find jobs in the UK. A digital campaign was quickly launched, complete with a chatbot in Ukrainian, and a Ukrainian national was brought into the team to provide additional support to those arriving in the UK with CV writing and interviews. Many people have been supported to navigate job seeking in a new country. All profit from placing refugees, combined with an employee donation match scheme, has generated &pound;27k for the International Red Cross.Other community support initiatives have included inspiring the next generation of STEM talent with school visits, mock interviews and learning to code, work with HMP Drake Hall on inmate rehabilitation, taking part in Impellam-sponsored Pride marches and cleaning beaches in the UK and Australia.Impellam people have an additional day of paid leave that they can use specifically for volunteering. They have used this time to raise money for charities through running, swimming, cycling and walking, as well as making donations to foodbanks around the UK to help with the cost-of-living crisis.A colleague from Guidant Global beat his own world-record finishing time for completing the London Marathon in a nonracing wheelchair, raising money for WhizzKids.</details><details class="mce-accordion"><summary>Environment</summary>Although we are a service-based organisation with no manufacturing facilities and limited transportation requirements, we are still committed to following environmental best practices in the day-to-day conduct of our business. This includes the use of sustainable and/or recyclable materials when available. A regular review of the potential impacts on the various businesses is undertaken and parts of the Group have achieved certification to ISO 14001 in relation to their environment management systems.</details><details class="mce-accordion"><summary>2022 energy and carbon reporting</summary>This year we have calculated our environmental impact across Scope 1, 2 and 3 (selected categories) emission sources for the UK only. Our emissions are presented on a location basis (using the UK grid emissions intensity) and our emissions are 894,249 kgCO2e (2021: 969,569 kgCO2e), which is an average impact of 442 kgCO2e per &pound;m revenue (2021: 582 kgCO2e per &pound;m). We have calculated the emission intensity metrics on both a revenue and colleague basis, which we will monitor to track performance in our subsequent environmental disclosures. The methodology used to calculate the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions is in accordance with the UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting (2022).</details><details class="mce-accordion"><summary>Energy and carbon action</summary>Our focus in the past year has been to extend and encourage working behaviours that are less impactful, which has resulted in us being able to continue to rationalise our property footprint which continues to decrease as leases expire. Where the need for a physical location remains, we have looked to share spaces across multiple operating businesses and increasingly utilise serviced offices and workspaces. Most businesses have also reduced the amount of time they&rsquo;re physically in the offices, which itself drives reductions in energy consumption.Whilst not directly affecting the Scope 2 emissions reporting, the Group completed its first full financial year of purchasing 100% renewable electricity generated only through wind, solar and hydro for all of its UK operations.The business has also had in place an electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme available to all UK employees and to support this initiative have invested in and installed nine EV Charging Points at the UK Head Office.Finally, the Group intends to fulfil its promise of achieving Carbon Neutrality and we will be offsetting our carbon emissions as stated above utilising the PAS2060 framework which will be published on our website in due course.The business remains committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and work will continue on the development and delivery of a Net Zero strategy this year. The Group will also continue to implement and formalise new processes in preparation for our first TCFD reporting cycle in 2024, as well as participating and reporting under the third phase of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) throughout the year. The business will continue its process of removing all company provided vehicles with the aim of having no owned or leased vehicles by the end of 2023 and will continue to offer the EV scheme to all employees.</details><details class="mce-accordion"><summary>Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (&lsquo;TCFD&rsquo;)</summary>TCFD reporting is important to effective ESG and climate risk management. It will also help us to meet the growing stakeholder demand to understand how climate change could affect Impellam as well as the effects our operations have on the&nbsp;climate.In 2022 we continue the initial steps on the roadmap to TCFD reporting and will include the required TCFD disclosures when Impellam falls in scope for the financial year 2023. The Group will continue to monitor the significance of climate related risks (including existing and emerging regulatory requirements), implement mitigating activities, and disclose in line with materiality to the Group.
